The morning sky is still dark as a group of rowers get ready to hoist long boats over their heads and carry them out to the dock.
“Make sure you are dressed warm!” Rye High School crew coach Stan Nelson shouts to the team as they scurry around the New Rochelle Rowing Club. “Let’s get the oars!”
It’s barely 6 a.m. on a chilly spring day when a couple dozen boys and girls hop in their boats and begin cutting through the rippling Long Island Sound.
