SARATOGA SPRINGS >> The Saratoga Rowing Association is having success this week at the 132nd Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in St. Catharine’s, Ont.
Matthew Scholl and Niles Arner each advanced out of Tuesday’s heats and Wednesday’s semifinals into Thursday’s Henley Gold final.
Scholl captured Tuesday’s 2,000-meter U19 mens single heat with a time of 7:38.917 and won Wednesday’s semifinal in 7:23.374. Arner won his respective heat in 7:39.002 and placed second on Wednesday in his semifinal at 7:32.253 to advance to the final in the 77-boat field.
The Canadian Henley awards only one medal, gold to the winner. Wednesday the SRA rowers will have the chance to hoist the Anthony ‘Tony’ Novotny Trophy in front of cheering friends, family and fans at the Martindale Pond facility.
The U17 mens eight of Jackson Howland, Christopher Capozzola, Emory Sammons , Daniel Dalton, Jack Gaba, Andrei Rench, Cameron McKenna, Christian Cianfarani and coxswain Maddie Sayer raced to a second-place finish with a time of 6:46.704 to qualify for Friday’s Henley Final.
Niles Arner and Matthew Scholl rowed to a second-place finish in the U19 mens double Wednesday in 7:03.566, advancing to Thursday’s Henley Final. They will be facing boat mates Maxwell Lynch and Grant Janart in the race for gold after the duo finished second in their respective heat with a time of 7:20.193. more…
