The Rye Garnet lightweight 4+ coxswain boat came home in third place out of 85 teams at Boston’s Head of the Charles regatta October 23. The crew of seniors Zack Szabo (cox), John Dailey (stroke), and juniors Timothy Rudolph-Math (3), Jimmy Cronin (2), and Jack Hartman (bow) were the first Americans across the line, trailing only an English and a Canadian schoolboy boat. Their podium finish, Rye’s first on the Charles, was especially noteworthy as they were competing in the Open Division against heavyweight oarsmen.
The Garnets’ eight finished ahead of 20 other boats in what was the first time down the river for cox Blake McGowan and most of his rowers.
