Thanks for a Great Fall Season!

Dear Parents, Coaches, and Rowers,

The Bill Braxton Regatta brought our Fall season to a very chilly close! With morning temperatures in the mid -thirties and a continuous Northerly wind, it felt far colder throughout the day than we had all anticipated.

RHS crew raced a total of 13 races in a very competitive field. RHS Crew placed first in three races, second in three races third in one race and fourth in two races.

FIRST PLACE: The Men’s Varsity Four+ coxed by Zach Szabo, with rowers Jack Hartman, Jimmy Cronin, Tim Rudoph-Math, John Dailey, won the Rafferty Cup for Rye High School beating 37 other boats, and coming first in their timed heat, and first in the final. The Men’s Varsity Double (John Dailey & Tim Rudolph-Math) won by open water in their race.

SECOND PLACE: In the Women’s double, Erica Kinstel and Felicity Johnson. In the Men’s double B, Alex Foresman and Michael, as well as the Men’s double C, Zach Fogarty and James Keller.

THIRD PLACE: The Women’s varsity 4x -B, led by Senior Kelsey Myers, and with Jillian Breen, Kayla Patal, and Clara Sutherland.

All-in-all, an impressive day of racing! Many thanks to Stan and Matt who put so much time and energy into coaching our team and making us more and more competitive!

Please see the attached link from Bill Dailey’s FLICKR account. He captured some amazing action shots of practically every boat and even got a picture of the super-moon that was very apparent on our way home from the regatta!

With Fall season behind us, it is the time to think about Winter Training. Please see the attached link to sign-up for Winter Training Sessions:

Crew is an all-consuming sport for parents with the early morning practices, long regatta drives, and the help that you give pre-regatta, at the regatta, and post-regatta.

I would like to give special thanks to our volunteers who have maintained the same position throughout the season and literally brought their “A-game” each regatta!

Raazia Syed, thank you so much for all of the help you gave throughout the season in menu planning, grocery list prep, and trailer loading! Joanna Malespin, Christiana Math, Laura Farres many thanks for all of the grocery shopping and your help in getting everything iced in the coolers and loaded into the trailers. A special shout-out to Jose Maria Farres, Daniel Rudolph-Math, and Wagar Syed for assisting with the heavy lifting!

Thank you Costas Hadjipanayis for managing the food at the regatta site! Some particular highlights were the Philly Cheese steaks and meatball subs at the Schuylkill! Many thanks to all of the people who helped prep the food and cook at the regatta site. We always seemed to have a nice team of Dads manning the grill: Paul Luthringer, Mike Batal, Jose Maria Farres, Victor Gomez, Sanjay Patel, Daniel Rudolph-Math, Junji Takegami, and Andrew Keller. Many thanks to you all!

Early morning set-up, not the shift that everyone jumps to sign up for, had a consistent cadre of volunteers: Kathy Szabo, Susanna Cronin, Claudia and Dom Lepore, Daniel Rudolph, Jose Maria Farres,Victor Gomez, Mike Kinstel, Sean Gilman, Bill Dailey, Connie Stetler, Karen Dore. Others helped throughout the day: Lynn Halpern, Tom Fogarty, Jane and Dan Johnson, Hellen Keller, Eva Vanamee, Elaine and Bob Clark, Lauren McGowan, Kris Dailey, Ilana Turk and Anna Talanova.

To all of our expert bakers and soup makers, thank you for all of the delicious goodies you provided throughout the season: Karen Dore, Therese Ferreti, Marianella Nelson, Lynn Halpern, Mary Beth Usry, Connie Stetler, Gina Mikkelsen, Lauren McGowan, and Luda Foresman.

To our chaperones: Victor Gomez, Lauren McGowan, Susanna Cronin, Bill Dailey, Christiana Math, Jose Maria Farres.

To our trailer towers: These guys deserve a HUGE shoutout as many of them towed the trailer multiple times throughout the season! Sean Gilman, Jose Maria Farres, Paul Luthringer, and Bill Dailey.

Many thanks to Sean Gilman for reconfiguring the shelving inside the trailer and for Brendan Hartman for remounting the spare tire outside of the trailer to free up some well-needed space.

Thanks again for a terrific season! Let’s do it again in the Spring!
