RHS Crew are Youth National Champions!

The Youth National Champion Ltwt 4+ crew,
from L to R: Coach Nelson, John Dailey, Tim Rudolph-Math, Zach Szabo, Jimmy Cronin and Jack Hartman.

Last weekend two boats represented Rye High School Crew at the 2017 Youth National Championships in Sarasota, Florida. In the women’s lightweight double, Clara Sutherland and Jillian Breen competed in a field of 24 state and regional champions, and the two freshmen performed admirably.

The men’s lightweight 4+ of John Dailey, Tim Rudolph-Math, Jimmy Cronin, Jack Hartman and Zach Szabo (cox) arrived at the competition as this year’s New York State Scholastic and Scholastic National Champions, eager to upgrade last year’s Youth National silver to a more precious medal. They won their time trials on the first day by 5 seconds and won their semi-final race also with confidence. The finals got underway on Sunday morning. After two false starts, our boys had an excellent start and lead the field from start to finish, capping an excellent season by winning the Youth National Championships! Congratulations to all athletes and coaches for a wonderful performance. What better way to celebrate Rye High School Crew’s ten year anniversary!
