Raffi recruited more than a dozen other rowers, created informational flyers for parents and students, and held interest meetings after school to promote the program. Raffi also found a home for the crew team at the nearby Greenwich Water Club, and the first official season began in Spring 2007. The entirely self-funded team participated in three prestigious regattas in its first season.

In the Fall of 2007, Stan Nelson joined the team as head coach. Crew became a varsity sport in 2010. Just within a short few years the program has grown considerably, reaching close to ninety rowers at its peak. In 2013, the team moved into its current home at Milton Harbor that it shares with Row America Rye.

In its nine-year history, the Garnets have achieved remarkable success medaling at the New York State Championships, the SRAA and youth nationals. In 2015, Jim Palmer (RHS 15’) won silver medal at the World Rowing Junior Championships as a member of the US National U-19 M8+ team.
